International Penological Conference at our Faculty

On January 11–12, 2025, the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Gdańsk hosted the international penological conference “PENOLOGICAL DELIBERATIONS. MISCELLANEA”, held in English.

The interdisciplinary conference was organized thanks to the commitment and long-term cooperation of Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration, Prof. Wojciech Zalewski with the European Center for Penological Studies named after Prof. Genowefa Rejman and the Institute of Social Prevention and Resocialization of the University of Warsaw.

The Organizing Committee included:

Prof. Wojciech Zalewski (Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdańsk)

Dr. Paweł Petasz (Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdańsk)

Katarzyna Jakubczak-Fopke, MA (Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdańsk)

The Scientific Committee consisted of:

Prof. Wojciech Zalewski, Prof. UG

Prof. Jadwiga Królikowska

Prof. Jarosław Utrat-Milecki

 

The two-day conference featured 16 presentations, with English as the official language of the event.

A diverse group of scholars, including lawyers and criminologists from Poland (University of Gdansk, Jagiellonian University, University of Warsaw, Casimir Pulaski Radom University), United Kingdom (University of Kingston, London Metropolitan University, University of Exeter), Brazil (University of São Paulo), Serbia, and Italy (Palermo University), presented their research.

 

The University of Gdańsk’s Faculty of Law and Administration was represented by:

Dr. Paweł Petasz, who delivered a presentation titled “Incest as a Sexual Crime – A Relic of the Past or Still a Necessity of the Present”

Dr. Andrzej Lewna, who presented “Factors Determining the Accused Decision to Enter into Plea Agreement. Report on the Qualitative Study in Polish Courts”

Dr. Georgii Sibirtsev, who discussed “Criminological and Ethical Assessment of the Sex Offenders Registry of the Republic of Poland”

 

The conference provided a platform for insightful discussions and knowledge exchange on contemporary penological issues.
